Legal aid and pro bono lawyers New Mexico programs specialize in providing legal services to persons and families of limited means and to charities and other non-profit organizations, which work on their behalf.
Licensed, experienced attorneys, paralegals and nonprofit, government-funded services and organizations continue to provide no-cost legal aid for the underprivileged citizens, despite of the financial hurdle the country is experiencing in most sectors of the economy. It is the recommendation of the American Bar Association that lawyers give FIFTY hours of pro bono work (free legal assistance) for the low-income individuals or families per year.

Most legal aid clinics do not make appointments. Services are rendered on a “first come first serve basis.” Pro bono attorneys are not able to assist with criminal charges. If you have a criminal case and can not afford a lawyer, contact the Public Defenders office in your area.
The legal aid program needs improvements in order to assure every one can have access to to the justice system. You can collaborate by making a donation or lobbying your state representatives for a funding increase to the programs.
